What is Supplemental Oxygen? 

   Supplemental Oxygen is oxygen typically contained in a small container (can or cylinder) and used intermittently to supplement a person's oxygen intake due to physical activity, high altitude living/visiting/activity, when short of breath, athletic competition and for various other personal reasons.

These applications do not require a prescription because the use per the application is not addressing or attempting to address a medical condition. Much like drinking water is very effective in preventing dehydration; using supplemental oxygen can prevent the effects caused by lack of oxygen.

BetterThanAir's Supplemental Oxygen contains 85-90% oxygen and 10-15% ambient air. No propellants, aromas or other questionable ingredients are incorporated in BetterThanAir's formula.

What's the difference between Medical Oxygen and Supplemental Oxygen?

  Medical Oxygen typically contains 96% or more pure oxygen from an FDA approved source of oxygen.  Medical Oxygen requires an official prescription from a doctor for a specific illness or condition.  Supplemental Oxygen does not require a prescription and is not designed to be used for any medical condition.  BetterThanAir's Supplemental Oxygen is not a solution for any medical condition or illness.

Can I travel on Airplanes with BetterThanAir's Supplemental Oxygen products? 

  BetterThanAir's Supplemental Oxygen products are not permitted on commercial aircraft or airlines. Even though some of BetterThanAir's products fall within the FAA regulations for permitted travel, the TSA will not allow BetterThanAir products on-board or in checked luggage.

BetterThanAir's History

  BetterThanAir started the Supplemental Oxygen Industry in 2002. At that time BetterThanAir was the only company in the USA developing, marketing, educating and selling Supplemental Oxygen products.  BetterThanAir's initial market was, and still is, the Colorado high country for skiers, hikers and visitors to the beautiful mountains of Colorado. 

Typically many people visiting Colorado suffer some symptoms of Altitude Sickness, needlessly.  These symptoms range from simple headache to extreme nausea.  By using BetterThanAir's Supplemental Oxygen products, these symptoms can be avoided or minimized. 

Is Supplemental Oxygen dangerous?

  Supplemental Oxygen is not flammable or explosive.  There is much confusion on the dangers of compressed oxygen. Here are the facts: 

-Oxygen is an accelerator, not flammable (this means that if oxygen is flowing into a fire it will help it grow faster)

-Oxygen is not explosive; The compressed cylinders of medical oxygen devices can act like rockets if the valve is broken off, which rarely happens;  this is because of the high pressure (3000 psi) in these medical tanks. 

BetterThanAir's products are much smaller units and contain lower pressures. All BetterThanAir products contain between 85%-90% oxygen and 10%-15% ambient air; no propellant and no aromas...just Better Air.

Can I breathe too much oxygen?

  You can breathe too much Medical Oxygen, but it would be very difficult to breathe too much of BetterThanAir's Supplemental Oxygen because of the size and LPM's (liters per minute) output of our products. 

To reach a state of oxygen toxicity, a person would have to spend maximum time in a Hyperbaric Chamber (chamber pressurized with 100% oxygen) or use Medical Oxygen at high LPM for an indefinite time period.

1. All BetterThanAir Supplemental Oxygen products contain between 85%-90% Oxygen and between 15%-10% ambient air.  No aromas or propellants are in BetterThanAir products because they are not deemed safe for the human lungs.
